Lantern Parade

The Lantern parade aims to bring the people of Haverfordwest and Pembrokeshire together, igniting the vibrant spirit of the local area.

Drift through the streets on a wave of twinkling lights. SPAN presents the return of the iconic Haverfordwest Lantern Parade for 2024!

SPAN is delighted to announce the return of the Haverfordwest Lantern Parade for 2024! Join us as we drift through the starry streets of the town with an enchanting Boat theme to illuminate this year’s dazzling parade.

SPAN Arts invites you to join us for the return of the Lantern parade on the 26th of October . Funded by the UK Government Levelling Up fund, we are thrilled to be bringing back this beloved event to Haverfordwest for 2024. With the community’s choice of theme, that after a close vote saw local artist Harriet Davies selected with her Boat Lantern to lead this year’s procession, we invite you all to share in the making of individual lanterns and to join us at the final parade.

We will be hosting two lantern making workshops in Haverhub, Quay street, Haverfordwest, where we invite you to bring family and friends to join us in making individual lanterns to light the way. The FREE drop-in workshops will take place on Saturday the 5th and Saturday the 12th of October between 10:30am and 12:30pm, where supported by our wonderful artists you will learn to build, sculpt and cover our lanterns made from willow and paper.

Lantern Making Workshops:

Date: Saturday, 5th October AND Saturday, 12th October

Time: 10:30am – 12:30pm

Location: Haverhub, Quay Street, Haverfordwest

As well as the lanterns made in our community drop-in workshops, we are excited to be working with schools from each of the wards of Haverfordwest to produce more individual lanterns which will join the procession alongside the community made lanterns and the giant Boat Lantern.

The parade itself will take place in Haverfordwest, on October the 26th, gathering from 5pm at St. Thomas’s Square and ending at the Skate Park. With the giant illuminated Boat lantern heading up the community made procession, we will sail through the streets on the melodic waves of a Samba band. With a flotilla of  community made lanterns lighting the way, the parade will cruise through the town to join choral performances from Côr Pawb in Castle Square, and to a spectacular circus-style performance and fire display which will draw the evening to an exhilarating close at the Skate Park.
