The 10th Narberth A Cappella Voice Festival will launch on Friday 4th May at The Queens Hall with an incredible line up headlined by The Bristol Suspensions, a mixed a cappella group from the University of Bristol and Voice Festival 2016 Champions. Also on the line up is the timeless Heather Jones and talented Mide collaborating with Narberth A Cappella Youth Collective with Molara
Formed in October 2014, the group has cemented its status as an established group in the UK A Cappella scene. Now in their fourth year, they have already recorded two albums, released three music videos and many live videos, been on the radio four times, placed at the ICCA Semi-finals, had an official sell out Fringe run, toured North-Eastern USA, received awards for Outstanding Arrangement, Choreography and Vocal Percussion, appeared on BBC One’s Pitch Battle and won The Voice Festival UK.
First on stage is Heather Jones, previously one third of the ‘holy trinity’ of Welsh musicians (alongside Meic Stevens and Geraint Jarman), who together were instrumental in developing the Welsh Rock scene in the 70s. Hardly surprising, then, that her album “Goreuon Heather” is a memorable collection of the nation’s cultural ambassador’s folk and rock material.
Born and bred in Cardiff, Heather learnt Welsh as a second language, and has been at the forefront of Welsh folk singing in both languages since the 70s. She is not confined to one style, and can turn her vocal ability to the field of rock, ballad and blues with natural ease.
As a singer and composer, Heather has the ability to convey her personal experiences with intense candour. Her great strength is that she takes the art of singing seriously and always strives for the best. Heather is still captivating audiences throughout Wales and will bring her warm, witty and positive personality to her performance.
In complete contrast, Narberth A Cappella Youth Collective with Molara and Midé will bring a fresh, eclectic and high energy approach to a cappella with a unique and one off collaboration. Midé, of The Sons of Pitches fame, is an award winning beatboxer / vocal percussionist from Cambridge. A key member of The Sons of Pitches, who won BBC’s The Naked Choir in 2015, Mide is also currently appearing on the House Band on Sky1’s “Sing: Ultimate A Cappella”.
Merging the talents of local young people with one of the UK’s leading beatboxers, this performance will not only provide an extraordinary platform and opportunity for young talent in Pembrokeshire, but also get you grooving in the aisles.
