Artist Support

SPAN Arts does not exist without the artists and creatives we collaborate with. We work to ensure we pay out artists fairly, value the work that they do, and support their continuing development in the county.

Creative Networking

SPAN is always looking to meet and engage with new artists and creatives from across West Wales and we understand that working as a freelance artist can be very isolating.

To help build stronger connections between the creatives in the region SPAN aims to host up to 4 creative networking events each year. These are free-to-attend socially focused spaces where artists and creatives come together to meet as peers, share ideas, and stories and make new connections.

If you are interested in attending future events join our mailing list or follow us on social media to find out about future events.

General Support

SPAN is committed to using its internal capacity, resources, and knowledge to support the West Wales creative sector’s development.

We will do this on a case-by-case, project-by-project basis where possible and realistic in balance with our core program of work.

This support could include, but is not limited to, one-off:

  • Short-term use of space in our SPAN Arts building in Narberth
  • Advice or consultation from members of the core staff team

This support will be time-limited and project-based. We aim to focus this support on artists and creatives whose work aligns with our wider aims:

  • West Wales focused
  • Socially engaged
  • Environmentally conscious

We reserve the right to refuse support to any person or company whose work or actions are counter to the collective supportive ethos of SPAN Arts. We also reserve the right to refuse support if doing so would cause any negative impact on our core program of work.

To request support please complete this simple form (below) as this information will help us identify what support we could offer. The responses to this form are checked monthly at a minimum.

The Green Room Artist in Residence

SPAN has created a dedicated artist working space within our Narberth building. The Green Room is a flexible, private room that could be used as a meeting space, studio space, and thinking space.

The aim of offering residencies in the Green Room is to give artists and creatives time and space to develop their practice, be that in general or as part of a specific creative project.

The Green Room facilities

  • Ground floor accessible space
  • Private use and 24 hr access
  • Shared use of kitchen and accessible bathroom
  • Power and Wi-Fi

A residency in the Green Room could be as short as a couple of days up to a couple of weeks. Alongside the use of the Green Room, there is potential for the use of our larger gallery space for a public sharing, though this is not a fixed requirement of the residency.

There is also scope for accessing mentoring or advice from the SPAN core team as part of the residency.

Where we have capacity to support, residencies will be awarded to artists and creatives:

  • That has a connection to Pembrokeshire and West Wales
  • Whose work aligns with SPAN’s creative and social aims
  • Whose creative practice we find engaging and of quality
  • Those whose voices are underrepresented within the creative sector
